Krasnaya Gorka Fort (Red Hill Fort)

Fort Krasnaya Gorka (Alekseevsky) is one of the two forts of the Kronstadt position of the Sea Fortress of Peter the Great. The construction of the fort was started in 1909 at the same time as Fort Ino (Nikolayevsky). The fort start working in early 1914.

The construction of the fort was led by Major-General Apollon Alexeyevich Shishkin. The fort took its name from the village of Krasnaya Gorka. In 1919 the fort was renamed to Krasnoflotsky.

For the First World War beginning fort’s garrison was staffed by wartime staff (2,000 artillerymen, 2,000 infantrymen and more than 500 servicemen of other combat arms). The fort did not take part in the fighting of the First World War. By January 1917, the garrison of the fort had grown to 5,500. In 1918, in connection with the proximity of the German army, the fort was mined. The explosion was canceled, but the charges were not removed. August 19, under unknown circumstances, several charges detonated. The gunpowder shells of three Kane guns and four 254mm guns flew to the air. During the Second World War, the fort was part of the defensive fortifications of the “red” Petrograd.

After the war, the fort was maintained for some time in a combat-ready state, then its premises were used as warehouses, and then almost completely abandoned.

The museum is located in the shelter for infantry No. 6 of the ground defense of Fort “Krasnaya Gorka”.

The group command post is 10″ and 6″ batteries, located on the left flank of the 6″ battery.

Marine 130mm cannon

On the right flank of the 10″ battery, a 130mm/50 deck ship artillery model 1935 (B-13) is installed in the weapons yard.

11″ mortar Battery

During the construction of the fort battery of eight 11″ howitzers was located here. At the beginning of the Second World War four 130-mm B-13 cannons was installed here.
