The 1-st Northern Fort – Kronstadt

The fort was built in 1855 - 1856 under the leadership of Totleben E.I. Reorganized in 1861 - 1869 under the leadership of Zverev K.Ya. In 1899 - 1903 fort go through significant restructuring under the leadership of N.V. Baranov. Were was built six concrete traverses, three rangefinder pavilions and a hiding searchlight .

To the fort leads the dam which was built in 1910. There was a railway.

Originally the dam reached only a breakwater and it’s was extended in the Soviet era, when the fort was used as a warehouse. At this place there was a moat.

Along the rear area of the fort there is an asphalt road.

From the front area there is an cobblestone road.

On the left flank you can see 3-embrasured pillbox No 11, which was built in 1935 and intended for anti-landing defense of the fort.

On the left flank there are household buildings – a kitchen, a glacier and a warehouse.

The 1-st Northern battery. 9 inch guns was located on double-stage concrete traverses. Guns was covered with concrete parapets from the front.

On the right flank, under the observation pavilion and searchlight mine, there is a storage of artillery supplies and for a kerosene generator.

Behind the fort there are the ruins of the guardhouse.

From the front side of the fort you can see the granite casemate traverses.

Also from here you can clearly see the Obruchev Fort.
